Brownwood High School students will start school this year with some familiar faces, but for at least a couple of instances, in different places.
David McCullough, who has been assistant principal at Brownwood High, was named principal for the Brownwood Accelerated High School and Alternative Programs earlier this summer. The alternative school offices and classrooms are housed in the same building as Brownwood Independent School District’s administrative offices on Southside Drive.
McCullough replaces Lisa Flood, who retired from the district at the end of the 2007 school term.
Andy Gill, who has been the golf coach at Brownwood, will be the assistant principal replacing McCullough. Gill was hired as an administrator at the regular board meeting on June 11.
McCullough has been with the BISD a total of 12 years, but in-between two stints with the district also taught and coached for several years at Early. Gill has been with the BISD for 11 years total, and previously taught and coached at Early.
The two men joked how their careers had leapfrogged each other. McCullough is a former Brownwood High School golf coach, and when he returned to the district in 2004, Gill was the Brownwood High School golf coach.
“And when I went to Early, Andy was at Early,” McCullough said.
The BISD board of trustees met for a brief called meeting at noon Monday. The following actions were taken:
Approved contracting with Stanley Walker Insurance for student athletic insurance catastrophic coverage; Approved the resignations of Amber Coronado and Sandy Hudspeth; Approved employment contracts for Mitzi Hughey, Amanda Uhlig, Tim Thomas, Marla Van Wyk and Robin Hart.
