Take a little direction from that beloved ’50s pop tune, and “find your thrill” – not on Blueberry Hill – but in the literally hundreds of activities of the ninth annual Reunion Celebration.

And the thrills start today. Gates open officially at 5 p.m., but vendors will probably be set up by 4 along Carnegie, near downtown Brownwood.

Cody Sellers will sing the National Anthem at 7:30 p.m. on Celebration Stage. At 7:45 p.m. Exit 343 is scheduled to take the stage; followed by Logan Sharp at 9 p.m. and Brandon Rhyder at 10:30. Tickets at the gate are $20.

Other attractions this evening include a magic show with magician David Hira pulling coins out of his ear and scarves out of his sleeve. Shows are scheduled for 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.

And from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Art Center, 215 Fisk Ave. the Brownwood Art Association is hosting a reception and awards presentation for the second annual Reunion Celebration photography contest.

The Pride of Texas Midway will be open and running from 6 until 10 p.m.

Contestants will be putting their hands on the house, starting this afternoon, for that back-again competition to win a made for child-play ’50s-style malt shop/hamburger stand. The last one standing, or with their hand still on the house, will win the structure for their child.

Saturday’s events kick off at 7 a.m. with the 5-K Reunion Run and 1.5 Walk. The big race begins at 8 a.m.
