Bulletin Staff Report
A FEMA representative will be in Brownwood this week to accept claims from area residents who suffered damages from heavy rains and flooding earlier this year.
The representative will meet with residents by appointment from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Adams Street Community Center, 511 E. Adams, officials announced Monday.
Appointments may be made by calling toll-free (800) 621-3362. The number for people with speech and hearing difficulties is (800) 462-7585.
Residents with losses suffered between June 16 and Aug. 3 are eligible to seek governmental disaster assistance, a FEMA public information spokeswoman said. For those unable to meet with the FEMA claims representative this week, applications will continue to be accepted through Aug. 28.
A variety of assistance packages are available to those who suffered losses, and information will be available at the meetings. They include FEMA and SBA programs, the spokeswoman said.
