Bulletin Staff Report
A public reception for Bobby Rountree, Brownwood city manager, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center. There is no cost to attend.
The reception is being hosted by the Brownwood Economic Development Corporation and the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce.
“Commun-ity members are invited to meet the new city manager and welcome him to Brownwood,” Laura Terhune, executive vice president of the chamber, said. “Although Mr. Rountree prefers to meet local citizens face-to-face, this reception will help him meet many people in a short amount of time. All guests are encouraged to bring a business card, so that their contact information will be readily available to the city manager after the event.”
Rountree joined the City of Brownwood in mid-September.
Rountree graduated from Texas Tech University in 1971 with a degree in recreation and parks administration. In 1972 he went to work in Baytown as the superintendent of parks and recreation, then became assistant city manager there in 1986.
In 1989, Rountree was named Baytown's city manager. He retired in 1999, and he and his wife, Jana, decided to move back to Goldthwaite to be near their families, Rountree said.
He was named city manager in Goldthwaite in April 2000.
Rountree has said that he and his wife were high school sweethearts in Goldthwaite.
They have a son who lives in Austin, a daughter who lives in Mansfield, and one grandson.
