Dr. Nancy Jo Humfeld and Eric Evans were found at downtown Brownwood’s Lyric Theatre Monday, overseeing construction progress beneath the marquee that now reads "Restoration has started."

After almost two years of intensive fund-raising efforts, and an equal amount of time since the completion of the last construction project, restoration of the interior has begun. The nearly $250,000-renovation of the building’s exterior was a monumental feat, in both the raising of funds and actual construction. With that behind them, crews are engaged in the labor-intensive task of demolition, focused on the stage and surrounding area, while continuing to preserve the heart of the century-old theater.
