Umsted found guilty of attempted capital murder

A 35th District Court jury found Paul Eugene Umsted, 53, of Brownwood, guilty of attempted capital murder with a deadly weapon. A punishment hearing begins at 1:30 p.m. Thursday before District Judge Steve Ellis.

District Attorney Micheal Murray, assisted by Assistant District Attorney Tommy Adams, prosecuted the case. Defense attorney Kirk Fulk challenged the credibility of state's witnesses throughout the trial.
