Brownwood police responded to a burglary in progress call at a home Sunday afternoon and arrested two males ages 17 and 16.

Officer Jayme Bowman arrested the 17-year-old, Ezra Berry, who was booked into the Brown County Jail on a charge of burglary of a habitation, police and jail records state.

Berry remained jailed Monday morning in lieu of $20,000 bond.

Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Third at 2:20 p.m. after a neighbor reported seeing two people enter a home through a window, Assistant Police Chief James Fuller said.

Officers set up a perimeter and approached the residence. One suspect was located at the front of the residence in the living room. The second suspect went out the back door and jumped a fence into the alleyway, where he was met by officers.

Both suspects admitted to entering the residence without permission, Fuller said. He said one of the suspects entered an unsecured window and unlocked the back door for the other suspect.

"The Brownwood Police Department reminds all citizens that crime prevention is a team effort," Fuller said in a press release. "We greatly appreciate the assistance from the observant citizen and are thankful to everyone who supports us in these matters."
