People attending the tonight's ninth annual Community Candlelight Service to pray for the nation's military are being asked to bring donations of boxed cake mixes and frosting for Good Samaritan Ministries' Christmas Boxes.
The service will be held at 6 p.m. at the Margaret and Stuart Coleman Plaza in front of the Depot Civic and Cultural Center, 600 E. Depot St., Brownwood, representatives of the Military and Family Support Group said.
"This will be a prayer service to pray for members of the United States Armed Forces, Reserves, National Guard and their families, world peace and those devastated by war," according to Support Group spokeswoman Joyce Leidig.
Candles will be available, but those attending will need to bring a lawn chair, Leidig said.
Helping to coordinate the service is Eric Evans of Southside Church. Also participating and helping with the service are volunteers from American Legion Post 196, VFW Post 3278 and Ladies Auxiliary; Pecan Valley Marine Corps League and Ladies Auxiliary; Early Middle School Builders Club; 4xGrace; Steven Puckett of Steve's Deli & Market; Pastor Allan Morris of Southside Church; Jill Goodwin of Citizens National Bank; the Rev, Sterling Lentz, pastor of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ; Jayslin King, Early Middle School Builders Club; the Rev, Ernest Kirk, pastor of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Brady; Heartland Harmonizers; Chaplain Jim Looby, pastor of First Baptist Church, Blanket; and members of the Military and Family Support Group.
Individuals as well as groups from churches or organizations who would like to be a part of the Community Choir are asked to arrive at 5:15 p.m.
"Our community has so many military who are currently deployed," Leidig said. "They need the prayers and support of our community. We look forward to your participation."
