Regulators of Texas' power grid are asking electric consumers to conserve energy during the late-afternoon hours this week.

Record high temperatures are the cause for the request, according to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. Limited consumption will be most needed between 3 and 7 p.m., which is the peak usage time.

ERCOT recommends conservation efforts such as closing blinds, turning off unnecessary lights and raising thermostats to 78 degrees or higher.
