Rodgers B. McCurdy, 78, of Early and formerly of De Leon, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017, in San Saba. He was born Feb. 15 ,1939, to Charlie Byron McCurdy and Velma Lois Hattox McCurdy in Gorman. Rodgers married Betty Orange Aug. 1, 1980, in Brownwood.

Rodgers lived most all of his life in the De Leon area. He and Betty owned and operated McCurdy Peanuts. Prior to being self-employed in the peanut industry, he was a home builder, a mechanic, a welder, and owner of Central Texas Trucking Company. Rodgers could do anything he

set his mind to. He was an inventor and an innovator. He built wagons, worked on race cars, was a small plane pilot, and enjoyed golfing. He had many loves in life, but of them all, his family was his greatest love. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, son, friend and neighbor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Betty McCurdy; daughter, Anita Stodghill; sons, Johnny Storey and wife, Christy, and Jeffrey Storey and wife, Misty; grandchildren, Gary Satterwhite and wife, Talisa, Michael Stodghill, Justin Storey, Jase Storey, Madision Storey and Jaden Storey; great-grandchildren, Cameron Satterwhite and Hayden Satterwhite. Rodgers was preceded in death by his son, Barry McCurdy; and parents, Charlie and Velma McCurdy.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 29 at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home, De Leon, with Brother Jackie Auvenshine officiating. Graveside services followed in De Leon Cemetery.
