Mary Lou McCleery, another loss of the Great Generation, went Home to be with her Lord Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017.
Lou was born Jan. 27, 1925 in Iowa Park to Archie D. and Callie (Hayden) Walker. She married Melvin McCleery on Sept. 13, 1945 in San Antonio. They moved to Odessa in 1952 where they jointly owned and operated Melvin’s Clothiers. Lou was an LVN as well. In the late 1960s, the McCleerys moved to May, where Lou worked side-by-side with Melvin on their ranch.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Howard and Colleen McCleery of May, and Kathy and B.A. Jolley of Brownwood; grandchildren, Jason Trout of Odessa, Jolene and Jesse Weaver of McKinney, Kyle and Jessice McCleery of Dallas and Laura, and Albert Maes of Midland; great-grandchildren, Avie, Gavin, Macy, Lambert, Marlee, Savannah and Scarlett; brother-in-law, Teddy Hamilton of Seattle, Washington; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lou was preceded in death by her soulmate and husband of 68 years, Melvin McCleery; and her brothers, sisters and in-laws.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Lou at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30 at the May United Methodist Church with burial to follow at May Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29 at Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
