Funeral services for Mary Ruth Cooper, 76, of Galveston and formerly of Brownwood, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at Rocky Creek Baptist Church.
Mary was called home to Heaven to be with our Lord on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017. She passed away suddenly due to complications for surgery.
She was born Aug. 10, 1941 to Leighton and Mildred Scharff.
Mary was a very special person, loved by so many for her tender heart, her laugh, sense of humor, and her love of God. She was an avid card, domino, game player, learning new games easily and beating her opponents frequently with her great sense of humor and laughter. She loved playing regularly at the Senior Center, Jolly Elders and Friday night gatherings.
Mary was fiercely independent, after suffering a debilitating stroke many years ago, determined to live independently, even enjoying years with her mother helping her after her mother’s stroke. Brownwood opened their hearts to Mom and we the family are truly grateful for your unconditional love and care for her.
The family would like to thank Rocky Creek Baptist Church for helping when she needed repairs when they occurred. To her friends thank you for helping her in her time of need. To her children who loved her with all their hearts unconditionally may God comfort you and bless you all. Mary was so appreciative in all things done for her.
Mary was preceded in death by her mother and father, Leighton and Mildred Scharff.
She leaves to mourn her legacy, her brother Tom Scharff  and wife Cheryl, nephew, Tom Scharff Jr.; son, Jerry and Kim Cooper and daughters Tina Ray-McGrath (Michael), Cheryl Cooper (John) and Julie Holt (Rick); 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.
Mary leaves behind a multitude of loving friends and family, we pray all will see her in heaven, we will miss our dear and loving child of God. She loved to travel on cruises with her family. Mary’s final wish was to be spread at sea. In Lieu of flowers, the family has set up a Memorial “Go Fund Me Page” in her honor to help make her last wish come true Type in link or go to GoFundMe search for Mary Cooper Brownwood Tx.
