Funeral services for Samuel (Sam) Stearns, 47, of Blanket will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26 at the Freedom Fellowship Church in Early. Interment will follow at the Trickham Cemetery and is under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home in Early. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25 at Heartland Funeral Home.
Mr. Stearns passed away Friday, Nov. 24, 2017 at his home.
Sam was born April 4, 1970 at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City to Floyd Dale Stearns and Wanda Mae England. He graduated from Cross Plains High School and was employed by Walmart where he recently received a 5-year award. Sam also participated in the Special Olympics and earned numerous awards and certificates. He attended High Mesa Cowboy Church and Freedom Fellowship Church. Sam enjoyed working and loved hunting, fishing, trapping, welding, working cattle and anything to do with the outdoors.
He is survived by his parents; step-mother Chandra “Sandy” Stearns; a brother, Billy Stearns of May; sister-in-law, April Stearns of Bluff Dale; aunt and uncle, Brenda and Sonny Spraggins of Cross Plains; cousins, Steven Steward of Brownwood, Samantha Armstrong and fiancé, Chris Edwards of Copperas Cove, Chance Thompson of Copperas Cove, Charles Thompson of Copperas Cove, William and Elizabeth Spraggins of Las Vegas, Nevada; nieces, Cheyenne Stearns of Bluff Dale, Nikki and husband William Hancock of Dublin; great-aunt Verna Mae Bolton of Brownwood; and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, R.C. and Ann Stearns; and brother, Robert Leroy Stearns.
