Agapita Gonzalez, 88, of Lake Brownwood, passed away Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5 at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Father Josh Gray officiating. Burial will follow at the Bangs Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. at Heartland Funeral Home.
Agapita was born on Sept. 20, 1929 in Villa Union, Mexico to Jesus and Barbarita Martinez. She married Porfirio Gonzalez on Nov. 20, 1950 in Villa Union and was well known for her tamales, atole, and empanadas. She enjoyed taking care of her plants, flowers and spending time with her loved ones. Agapita was an active member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church and was a member of the Guadalupe Society.
She is survived by her four sons, Juan Raul Gonzalez Sr. and wife Juanita of Lake Brownwood, Joe Gonzalez and wife Rhonda of Brownwood, Porfirio Gonzalez Jr. III of Bangs, and Franky Gonzalez and wife Angie of Denton; and three daughters, Dora Saucedo of Zephyr, Juana Gonzalez of Lake Brownwood and Maria Antonia Sanchez of Fort Worth. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Barbarita Martinez; husband Porfirio Gonzalez Sr.; and two sons, Porfirio Gonzalez Jr. II and Jesse Gonzalez.
