A memorial service for Betty Jo Masters, 87, of Brownwood, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2018 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. A time of visitation with the family will be held prior to the memorial service, beginning at 10 a.m.
Mrs. Masters passed from this life on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, in Brownwood.
Betty Jo Rushing was born in Rotan on October 11, 1930, to Joe Frank and Lottie Belle (Clayton) Rushing. She attended Rotan schools and married Wilbert Denman Masters on March 6, 1948, in Roby. The Masters moved to Abilene in 1953 where Betty worked as a nurse’s aide. They were members of the Minter Lane Church of Christ in Abilene. In 1972, they moved to Brownwood where Betty continued her career as a nurse’s aide up until she turned 75. She worked for Cross Country Care Center, CARE, Inc., and Oak Ridge Manor.
Betty loved to garden and was an avid china painter. She won many ribbons and awards for her china painting. Betty was actively involved in P.T.A. for her children and volunteered for many years at the Community Thanksgiving Feast.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Patricia Neal Johnson and husband Mike; four grandchildren, Jeff Benson and wife Jessica, Matt Shaw and wife Jennifer, Jimmy Shaw and wife Karen and Jennifer Strittmatter and husband Luke; nine great-grandchildren, Abigail Benson, Alex Benson, Jeremiah Benson, Hannah Shaw, Ava Shaw, Sadie Shaw, Sally Shaw, Susie Shaw and Cole Strittmatter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wilbert in 2007; a daughter, Linda Gail Benson in 2016, an infant son, Gary Wayne Masters in 1955, an infant grandson, Gabriel Benson in 2009, eight sisters and two brothers.
