Graveside funeral services for Fairwick “Mack” McCarty, 94, of Brownwood, will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Greenleaf Cemetery with Bill Slaymaker and David Barnum officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the funeral home.
Mr. McCarty passed away on Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
Fairwick Mack McCarty was born on Feb. 16, 1914, in Brownwood, the son of Walter and Annie McCarty. He was raised, educated and later met the love of his life, Millie Mae Allison, in Brownwood. She preceded him in death after 60 years of marriage.
“Mack” had been in auto sales for most of his life and had served on the Brownwood City Council for 17 years. He was a lifelong resident of Brown County and had attended the Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by four daughters: Alma Sledge, JoAnn Mills, Wanda Bell and Cynthia Eagleton, all of Brownwood; one son-in-law, Dan Owen of Wichita Falls and one brother, Preston McCarty of Brownwood.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Millie Mae McCarty; one son, Mack McCarty Jr.; one daughter, Maxine Owen and his parents, Walter McCarty and Annie Ethel Smith McCarty.
