Vera Elizabeth Groves Boykin, entered the Lordís gracious keeping Dec. 23, 2007, after a brief struggle with cancer.
Mrs. Boykin was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Brownwood and spent her early years in San Angelo. She attended the Lake View schools and graduated from San Angelo College in 1942.
She later attended Howard Payne College where she completed her bachelorís and masterís degrees in education. Her career in education spanned 28 years in Rochelle, Fredericksburg, and Bangs. After retirement, she served on the Bangs School Board for just a little over eight years. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Phi Delta Kappa.
Mrs. Boykin was an active member of the Pecan Valley Genealogical Society, the study of family being her primary activity in retirement. In recent years, she joined the Vintage Rose Chapter of Red Hats.
She is survived by her son, Wade Boykin; grandchildren, Kevin Boykin and Shawna Wishert; great-grandchildren, Courtney and Cory Wishert; and close cousins, Nadine Byrne and Freeman Boatright.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Jo Groves; a sister, Daphnea E. Groves; a son, Harvey Wayne Boykin; and a close cousin, Christene Perrine.
Celebration of her life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Bangs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
