Raymond Walter Zimbal, 85, of Early, Texas, beloved, husband, father, grandfather and brother, died on May 26, 2007. Raymond died peacefully at Brownwood Regional Medical Center after a battle with cancer and was surrounded by family and close friends. Raymond was born on Feb. 2, 1922 in Merrill, Wis., to Theodora Strassburg and Herbert Zimbal. Raymond grew up in Merrill, Wisconsin. He served proudly and with honor in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 668th Field Artillery Battalion and as a paratrooper. He also had a distinguished and enjoyable career with the U S Army Reserve where he worked as a Master Sergeant with the Texas National Guard in Brownwood, Texas, for 27 years. Raymond cherished many long lasting friendships throughout his career. He was a faithful and devoted member of the Early Church of Christ, and was also a Deacon and Elder with the church for 25 years.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Anne Zimbal; son, Ray Zimbal Jr. and wife Janis; daughter, Cynthia Flye; daughter, Camilla Zimbal; one sister, Dorothy Liberty; three grandchildren, Amy Shaw and husband Chris, Heather Bedicheck and husband Scott, and Deena Thomas; and one-great-grandchild, Avery Bedicheck.

The family would like to give special thanks for the extraordinary care given to Ray by his dear friends of Early Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be held at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel, 303 Early Blvd., Early, Texas, at 10:30 a.m. May 29, 2007.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in May, Texas, immediately following the funeral. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Early Church of Christ.
