Services for Clara Kilgore, 72, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early. Interment will follow at the Stag Creek cemetery in Comanche County. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16 at the Heartland Funeral Home.
Clara May Kilgore went peacefully to join our Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011. She was born Feb. 2, 1939, in Tahlequah, Okla., the daughter of Ernest (Buster) and Audrey (Woolbert) Wofford. She was a member of the Cherokee Nation and proud
of her Indian heritage.
Mrs. Kilgore lived in Blanket and was a Baptist. She was married to Willard Boyd Kilgore on Jan. 16, 1958, in Comanche. She had a great love for her family and time spent with her grandchildren. She was an accomplished seamstress and did upholstery work, enjoyed quilting, playing the guitar, singing and porcelain doll making.
Clara is survived by her four children, Jim Kilgore and wife Deborah of Zephyr, Brenda Salazar of Blanket, Gina Portnajmer and husband Tim of Early and John Kilgore of Gravette, Ariz.; two sisters, Bobby Bullard of Colcord, Okla. and Kay Cooper and husband Gene of Noel, Mo.; five brothers, Johnny Wofford and wife Danna, Bud Wofford and wife Sandra, Wayne Wofford, all of Colcord, Okla., Ernest Wofford of Arkansas, and Howard Wofford and wife Cindy of Anderson, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Inez Abbey of Deleon; and two brothers-in-law, Lonnie Kilgore and wife Betty of Comanche and Vernon Kilgore and wife Fern of Oregon; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Vanessa, Kristina, Jesse, Misty, Justin, Kacy and Megan; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard Boyd Kilgore; brother, Billy Wofford.
"Granny" Kilgore was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by all her family and loved ones. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Brownwood Good Samaritan Ministry.
