Guadalupe Montellano, 76, formerly of Brownwood, passed away Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, in Irving, Texas, after a lengthy illness.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nellie; daughter, Sophia Mergeler and husband Robert; son, Alfred Montellano and wife Kathy; five grandsons, Trent, Tristan and Tegan Montellano, and Ryan and Zack Mergeler.
A Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 20, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brownwood, Texas. A military memorial service at Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery will be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at the Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. to follow.
Lupe was an excellent storyteller. He loved his Dallas Cowboys, baseball and boxing. Lupe was an avid oil painter, and treasured every minute with his grandsons. He thoroughly enjoyed his weekly breakfast gatherings with his wife and his childhood friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association.
