Buford Smith, 78, of Blanket, passed away at his residence Wednesday the 27th of August, 2008. Funeral services, under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home, will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Saturday evening at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Buford’s honor be made to the Bangs Church of Christ, 506 5th St, Bangs, TX 76823.

Mr. Smith was born Feb. 15, 1930, in Brownwood to Thomas Jefferson and Rachel Maude (Murrell) Smith. He attended school and graduated from Bangs High School, and served the military in the United States Air Force. In December of 1953, Buford and Ruby Lee Dempsey were married. His church affiliation was Church of Christ and was member of the Fourth and Stewart and Bangs Churches of Christ. Buford was employed by and retired from 3M. An avid outdoorsman and sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, shooting, fishing, and following the Brownwood Lions.

Buford Smith is survived by daughter Kimberli Smith Cross and husband Jerry of Irving; son Shane Smith and wife Sandy of Wichita Falls; grandchildren, Todd Smith, Ashley Hernandez, Lee and Taylor Cross, Allison Conrady; great grandchildren, Gentry and Jacquline Smith, Jameson Cross, and Maddox Hernandez; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife Ruby Lee Smith; son Tony Smith; parents Thomas and Rachel Smith, brothers, Jesse, Walter and O.J. Smith; and sister, Virginia Smith Cox. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
