J.B. “Jake” Adams, age 90, of Early, died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Early with the Rev, Eddie Ailshie and Calvin Knight officiating. Burial will be at the Eastlawn Memorial Park. Heartland Funeral Home in Early is in charge of arrangements.

J.B. was born in Lamesa, Texas, on April 11, 1918, to Robert and Gertrude Dowling Adams. He married Frances Grinstead on May 19, 1940, in Brownwood, and she preceded him in death in May of 1999. He was a World War II Army veteran, and a member of the American Legion, and First Baptist Church Early. He had been a resident of Early since 1940. Mr. Adams had lifelong passion for wood working. He was also a retired purchasing agent for Ross Company.

Survivors include one son, Jeff Adams and wife Sandy of Spring Branch, Texas; one daughter, Kay Sheffield of Fredericks-burg, Texas; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Grindstead Adams; parents, Robert and Gertrude Adams; two brothers; three sisters; and one son-in-law, W.L. “Butch” Sheffield.
