Funeral services for Fred Purcell, age 89, of Brownwood, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday Nov. 13, 2007, at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dwayne Clowers officiating, interment to follow at Smith Cemetery. Mr. Purcell passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at a local nursing home.

Fred was born June 16, 1918, in Brown County to the late Walter and Lela Purcell. He married Lorene Troub on Feb. 10, 1970, in Las Vegas. He worked as a farmer and loved to go hunting, fishing, and dancing. Fred especially enjoyed listening to country music and playing games with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Lorene Purcell of Burkett; three daughters, Marie Hays and husband Bill of Brownwood, Tula Simmons and husband Jesse of Brownwood, and Betty Purcell Anderson of Brownwood; four sons, O.J. Purcell and wife Gay of Brownwood, Eddie Purcell and wife Randi of Brownwood, Mike Purcell and wife Charlotte of Cedar Park, Texas, and Larry Purcell and wife Debbie of Morgan Mill, Texas; three step-children, Nina Phillips and husband Dwayne of Brownwood, Danny Carroll and wife Linda of Anthem, Ariz., and Tommy Carroll and wife Brenda of Troy, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Walter Melton Purcell, a brother Orbin Purcell, and a sister, Willie Phillips.
