WILLIAMS – Kenneth Edward Murdoch, 79, of Williams, went home to be with his Lord, Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009 at the Rising Star Nursing Center. Surrounded by his family, he passed away after an extended illness.

He was born Sept. 17, 1930, to Hughie “Red” and Ruby Runkle Murdoch in Girard, Texas. He graduated from Rising Star High School and joined the Navy. After he got out of the service, he went to work in the oil fields and began a lifelong career in the oil industry.

On Sept. 10, 1954, he was married to Ann Moore in Williams, Texas. They had been married 55 years.

Kenneth worked in South America as a drilling consultant and as a drilling contractor in this area with his company. He and Ann raised Brangus cattle and quarter horses on their ranch and had been active in the International Brangus Breeders Association, the Texas Brangus Breeders Association, the West Texas Brangus Breeders Association and a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. Kenneth was also a Mason.

He was a Christian and a dedicated member of May First Baptist Church. He was generous and loving and had a compassion for other people without needing recognition of his deeds. As a result, he and Ann have a large extended family of special friends throughout the world.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Ann; his three children, Dirk Murdoch, Kyra Murdoch and Karla Rogers and her husband Fielding “Bozo” Rogers; five grandchildren of whom he was very proud, Drew Murdoch, Kendra Ireland, Mikey Dickerson, Brittany Rogers and Reba Rogers; three great-grandchildren, Brayden Ireland, Austin Ireland and Quirt James Rogers; his very special sister, Dorothy McKinnerney; and nieces, Lori Butler and Toni Briscoe and their families.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at Higginbotham Funeral Home in Rising Star. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at the May First Baptist Church. Kenneth will be laid to rest in Blake Cemetery in the Williams Community.
