Richard Hugh “Dick” Jarvis, age 84, of Brownwood died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

    Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. His body was cremated under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early.

    He was born Nov. 16, 1926, in Ranger, Texas, the son of Robert and Helen Smith Jarvis. Following some college studies, he served in the U.S. Air Force. He later was married to Catherine Tibbals in Wichita Falls on Dec. 23, 1947. They moved to Brownwood in 1967 from Hurst where he served as the District manager for General Motors. Following retirement with GM, he worked for Holley Chevrolet for several years. In Brownwood, he attended Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.

    He loved to hunt and fish and while his boys were young, he served as Scoutmaster for Troop 43 of the Boy Scouts. He and his wife loved to travel and were members of the Wally Byam Caravan Club and the West Texas Airstream club. They traveled all over the country with their Airstream buddies.

    He is survived by his wife, Catherine Jarvis of Brownwood; two sons, Gary Jarvis and wife Sherri of Midland and Richard Jarvis of Brownwood; two daughters, Karen Gillen and husband Bill of Corpus Christi and Cynthia Ledbetter and husband Tom of Lexington, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Ruth Jones of Temple; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
