Alice Marie Oma Jones, 91, of Mexia, passed away on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at the Mexia LTC in Mexia.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church of Mexia, with the Rev. Brad Brittian officiating.

Mrs. Jones was born on July 12, 1919, in Arlington, Texas, to Jasper and Effie Little Chapman. After graduating high school, she was married to Hershal Jones on July 16, 1938. Oma was a homemaker and an avid bridge player. She was a very giving person, always willing to help and touched everyone she met. She always wanted 12 children of her own and ended up raising 12, including four great-grandsons as well as being a foster grandmother to many in the community. Oma was very optimistic and always said, if life gives you lemons, make lemonade and have a party.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her daughter, Barbara Candy and husband Bob of Lake Mexia; granddaughter, Deanna Petty and husband Allan of Lake Mexia; grandson, Cass Candy and wife Kellie of Lake Mexia; great-grandsons, Chad Candy of Jacksonville, Fla., Cory Candy and wife Jessica of Mesquite, Texas, Jade Candy and wife Anna of Coolidge, Brandon Candy and Mica Berry; great-granddaughters, Brandi Owen and husband Trevor of Killeen and Shelby Candy; great-granddaughter-in-law, Joy Higginbotham, of China Spring; great-great-grandson, Brent Higginbotham of China Spring; niece, Dottie Taylor and husband Jon Filer, Idaho and nephew, Buddy Chapman and wife Molly of Burleson.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 50-plus years; her parents and a great-grandson, Ty Higginbotham.
