Graveside funeral services for John Doyl Spurlock, 83, of Early, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Zephyr Cemetery with Eddie Ailshie of Early First Baptist Church officiating under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
John passed away on Thursday morning, Sept. 20, 2007, in Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
He was born on Sept. 23, 1923, in Zephyr to Samuel Doyl and Lorena Belvin Spurlock. He served his country in World War II in the U.S. Army. John worked as a welder for Santa Fe International in petroleum pipeline construction in many different places around the world. He married Carol Dean Nichols in 1972. He was a Methodist.
John is survived by his wife, Carol Spurlock of Early; two daughters, Sheryl Myrick of Brownwood and Carol Lynn Hagan of Anchorage, Alaska; a son, Sam Spurlock of Brownwood; two stepdaughters, Debbie Asbill of Abilene and Linda Fleming of Early; three grandchildren; two sisters, Gladyce Rasberry and Vonnie Guthrie, both of Brownwood; three brothers, C.E. Spurlock of Grand Saline, and B.J. Spurlock and B.B. Spurlock, both of Stephenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, John Doyl Spurlock Jr.
