DE LEON — Funeral service for Altha Myra Haslett Wilkerson, 93, of Hico will be at 3:30 p.m. today at De Leon First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lisa Neslony and the Rev. Charles McClure officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche.
She died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at her home.
She was born Aug. 29, 1914, in Lynchburg, Tenn., to Charles Wesley and Stella Allen Haslett. She was married to Jim H. Wilkerson on Feb. 4, 1934, in Comanche.
She was owner/manager of Locke & Wilkerson Insurance and Accounting for a number of years, and was a member of the United Methodist Church of De Leon, teaching Sunday school classes for 60 years, including classes in Hico where she had lived for the past 14 years. She was the first president of the Women’s Division of the Chamber of Comerce and Professional Women’s Club, and was on the De Leon school board.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Smith and husband Michael of Pinehurst; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Wilkerson; her parents; a son, Paul Ray Wilkerson and his wife Quata; a daughter, Carolyn Anne Wilkerson; a brother, Charles Haslett; and a sister, Ara Morgan.
