Graveside services for Esther McBride, 88, of Brownwood, Texas, will be will be held at the May, Texas, cemetery at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, with the Rev. Jimmie Mize officiating. Family visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at the Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas.

    Esther was born in Ranger, Texas, in August of 1922.

    She passed away on Dec. 2, 2010, at Oakridge Manor Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.

    Esther was a resident of Brown County for most of her life and attended school in Brownwood and May. While living in May she met Ernest McBride. They were married on Jan. 6, 1940.

    Esther worked at the Brownwood Retail Merchants Association for over 50 years. She managed the Association for many of those years and was well known in Brownwood and the surrounding communities. Esther was a graduate of many professional business courses and maintained the highest standards in the conduct of her business.

Esther loved and doted on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid and knowledgeable gardener and a gourmet cook. She also enjoyed fishing and camping with her children and grandchildren.

    She is survived by a son, Larry and wife Ina, of Brownwood; a daughter, Donna and husband Joedale Reesing of Brownwood; grandchildren, Christy and husband David Weas of Seaside, Calf., Elizabeth and husband Tom Pfeiffer of Niceville, Fla., Rhett and Kristi Reesing of Abilene, Texas, Brad and Lori Reesing of Idabel, Okla. and Joe and Diana Reesing of Broken Bow, Okla.; great-grandchildren Kaitlin, Kyle and Kendal Pfeiffer, Emily Reesing, Matthew and Michael Weas and Easton, Laurel and Trase Reesing. One brother, Tony Deere and wife Rose of Kilgore, Texas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Ernest; her parents Ed and Mary Deere and stepmother Bertha Boenicke Deere; her brother, B.F. Deere; sisters, Nadine, Clifford, Joni and Darlene.

    The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff and aides of Oakridge Manor Nursing Home for the loving care extended to Esther. They would also like to thank Karen, a Lighthouse Hospice Aide for the daily personal care provided Esther. Also, the family would like to recognize Esther's Lighthouse Hospice nurse, Kayla, for the highly competent and compassionate care given to Esther in her final days and hours.
