Howard Graham, 81, of Brownwood passed away at his home on Sept. 26, 2007, after a battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) for the last three years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Howard was born in a small farm house in Bono, Texas, on March 16, 1926, to Howard and Virdie Graham. He joined the U.S. Army in 1943; he was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of sergeant.

In 1946 he began his medical and welding supply career in Fort Worth, as a truck driver working for National Cylinder Gas. Four years later he was transferred to Lubbock, as salesman and in 1956 he was promoted to district manager and moved to Odessa, where he opened a new store for National Cylinder Gas. He spent his final years with NCG working out of the Dallas area as area sales manager responsible for West Texas and New Mexico. He had 30 years of service when he retired at the young age of 50 and began pursuing his next career.

He then moved to Brownwood in 1974 and began his lifelong dream of opening and owning his own medical and welding supply business, which he named Brownwood Welding Supply. He was president and owner of the first full service industrial, medical, fill plant and welding store in Brownwood. He put all that experience and knowledge from the past 30 years to work, with the support of close friends he had made along the way to accomplish his dreams.

In 1990, after he had been working in this industry for more than 44 years, he decided to retire for a second time and sold his business to Airgas. After retirement, he enjoyed playing golf with his closest friends at Brownwood County Club, as well as traveling in his motor home and going on fishing trips to Colorado.

He soon became bored and started a third career working with rental properties in the Brownwood area.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Virdie Graham, and his wife, Marie Graham.

Howard is survived by his son, Dennis Graham and wife, Kimberly, of Brownwood; daughter, Cynthia Graham and husband, John Love, of The Woodlands; sister, Kathryn Byars of Cleburne; grandson, Dennis Graham Jr. of Austin, and a step-grandson, Bradford Graves of Brownwood.

Pallbearers will include Darwin Boscamp, Ed McMillan, Rondy Gray, Leroy McGregor, Don Jones, David Grimsley, Rick Shaffer, H.C. Lewis and Donnie Thompson.
