Funeral services for Harold R. “Dick” Roberts, age 82, of Mullin will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2009, at Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Chapel, with Bill Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in Oakview Cemetery in Mullin. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

He entered eternal life on Thursday, June 25, 2009, in Stephenville, Texas.

He was born Sept. 23, 1926, in Santa Anna, Texas to Warren Tolliver ‘WT’ Roberts and Mattie Perkins Roberts. He was married to Norma Sylvara on May 6, 1949, in Yuma, Ariz. In 1968 he retired as a Sergeant Major after 26 years of service in the U.S. Army. He and his family served military tours of duty in Japan, France and Germany as well in the United States. Afterwards the Roberts family settled in Mullin where they raised hogs, game chickens, Boer goats, and Dorper sheep.

He is survived by his children, Jim Roberts and Kathy Gilles of Galveston, Glenda Hughbanks of McKinney, John Roberts of Las Vegas, Nev., Elizabeth and Joe Miller of Goose Creek, S.C., Margaret and Jim Goetze of Laredo, Becky and Allan Nelson of Stephenville, Beverly Ripley and Ken Elliott of McKinney, and Laura and Kerry Pope of Murphysboro, Tenn.; grandchildren, Warren and Danielle Fortenberry, Michael Fortenberry, Jamie ‘Faithie’ and Matt Roberts, Jennifer Clemons, Jason Miller, Justin Miller, Christopher and Cassie Roberts, Forrest Roberts, Katie and Asher Replogle, Michael Nelson, Mark and Mandi Nelson, Matthew Nelson, Jarrett Ripley, Sarah Ripley, John Ripley, Brady and Staci Taylor, and James Raymond “J.R.” Taylor; great-grandchildren, Brendon Fortenberry, Erin Roberts, Olivia Roberts, Cora Clemons, Gabriel Clemons, Aimee Roberts, Andrew Roberts and Ian Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Norma Sylvara Roberts; grandson, Kenneth Eugene Bates; brother, Weldon ‘Pick’ Roberts; sisters, June Cooksey and Flora ‘Pug’ Cooksey; his parents; and ‘Titerbus’ the deaf, left-handed cat.
