Funeral services for William Jackson “Bill” Holder Jr., 84, of Brownwood, will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 16, 2007, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Ivy officiating. Burial will follow at Whon Cemetery in Coleman County.
Visitation was from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He died Friday, July 13, 2007, in Abilene.
He was born Sept. 28, 1922, in Sweetwater to William Jackson and Pearl Ann Shields Holder. He was a member of Avenue D Baptist Church. A resident of Brownwood since 1993, he moved here from McCamey, where he was a foreman in the petroleum business, and a fire fighter for many years. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On Nov. 6, 1991, he married Mabel Norwood Holder. She passed away Feb. 20, 2003. He was also a member of Oddfellows and Rebekah Lodge in Brownwood, and served as a deacon and Sunday School director at Avenue D Baptist Church.
Survivors include Stella Ann Schoenewolf and husband Doug of Bay City, William Douglas Holder and wife Paula of Kermit, Wanda Ruth Dufresne and husband Larry of Holland, Mich., Rebecca Pritchett and husband Gary of Coahoma, Mary Ella Holder of Big Spring, Christopher Alan Holder and wife Sharon of Midland; three stepsons, Ronnie Norwood and wife Alice of McCamey, Gary Norwood and wife Vivian of Snyder, Sandy Norwood and wife RoseAnn of McCamey; 27 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; sister, Winnie Stokes and husband Odus of Brownwood, and dear friend Maureen Watson of Santa Anna.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mabel Holder, brother C.C. Holder, and sister Minnie Lou Holder.
