Graveside services for Opal Dean Powers Montgomery will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, in the Wolf Valley Cemetery near May, Texas.
She passed away Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at the CARE Inc. nursing facility in Early, Texas.
She was born Oct. 16, 1919, in Edith, Texas, to George and Ida Fields Powers. She grew up in Edith near Robert Lee, Texas. Opal was in the nursing profession as a LVN nurse for 23 years, before retiring in 1981. Her hobbies were crafts quilting, playing cards and dominoes. She was a Baptist, but her grandfather Green Cotton Fields was a Methodist minister.
She is survived by her sister, Eva Ashworth; her nephews, Roscoe Blanton, Preston Blanton, Larry Ashworth, Morgan Ashworth; and many great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, N.C. “Dutch” Montgomery; a stepson, Clayborn; a sister, Leah Blanton; and her parents.
Heartland Funeral Home of Early is in charge of arrangements.
