Paul Perry Sr., 74, of Bangs passed away peacefully at his home on July 10, after a battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, at the Netherton Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Wallace Pierce officiating.
Interment will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Netherton Funeral Home.
Paul was born on May 26, 1933, in Carrollton, Ga., the son of Paul and Clyde Perry. He graduated from high school in Ohatchee, Ala., in 1951, and married Velma Brown on Dec. 23, 1956. They had six children.
Paul served in the Army before attending the University of Alabama. He entered the computer science field in its inception in the 1960s, and retired from the U.S. Civil Service in 1994 from Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. In 2000, Paul and Velma moved to Bangs.
Paul was a born-again Christian and a deacon in the Baptist church. At the time of his death, he was a member of Rolling Acres Baptist Church. He enjoyed being outdoors, working in his garden, reading his Bible and leading Bible studies at his church. He was a charter member of the Upward Call Christian Ministry, and participated in numerous backpacking trips in New Mexico and Colorado.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Velma Perry; three daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie Hallford and husband, Jimmy, of Bangs, Texas, Kim Reagor and husband, Kirk, of Devine, Texas, and Jan Turner and husband, Robert, of San Antonio; one son, Paul Perry Jr. of Bangs; two grandsons, Michael Perry of Munith, Mich., and Jacob Hallford of Bangs; two brothers, Jack Perry of Lula, Ga., and Brent Perry of Slidell, La.; two sisters, Lynda Johnson and Paul Martin, both of Ohatchee, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by two infant children, Cynthia Karen and John Phillip, his parents, and his siblings, Donald Perry, Martha Williams, Doug Perry and Gene Perry.
