Mary Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Chancellor, age 64, went to be with the Lord after a long battle of cancer on Monday, April 19, 2010, at her daughter’s home in Brownwood.
She was born Nov. 1, 1945, the daughter of the late Horace and Nadine Head Core in Lampasas, Texas. She graduated from Denton High School in 1964 and then attended the University of North Texas in Denton. She later graduated from McMurry University in Abilene in 1968 and received her master’s degree from Texas Women’s University in 1978.
Beth taught elementary school for 33 years, 31 of those years in the Alvord ISD. She retired from teaching in 2001 and served as a substitute teacher for the past 7 years in the Alvord ISD. She was married to Ray Chancellor on May 31, 1975. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Alvord and enjoyed teaching, reading Danelle Steel Books, making lots and lots of scrapbooks of her family, and vacationing with her family.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Patricia Davis and husband Doug; sons, Craig Chancellor and wife Joni, Scott Chancellor and wife Marni, and Mark Chancellor and wife Cindy; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Olivia, Kurtis, Elizabeth, Katelynn, and Mallorie Chancellor and Brandon Davis; two great-grandchildren, Maddy and Paige; sister, Linda Coppage and husband Johnny; brothers-in-law, W. C. Stark and wife Diane and Charles Chancellor; sisters-in-law, Estelle Watts and husband Bobby, Rosemary Miller and husband Pat, and Margaret Anderson and husband Curtis; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Jeffery Chancellor, and a grandson, Ethan Chancellor.
Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church of Alvord with burial following in the Alvord Cemetery under the direction of Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home of Decatur. Local arrangements were handled by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
