JANSEN, Neb. — Funeral services for Vernon Herman Krause, 81, Jansen, Neb., and Brownwood, will be at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jansen with the Rev. Stan Ostgren and the Rev. Charles Schmidt, pastors, officiating. Burial will be at the Cub Creek Cemetery in rural Jansen. Graveside military rites will be held by the Nebraska Army National Guard.
A family prayer service will be held at 1:15 p.m. today at the church. Harman-Wright Mortuary of Beatrice is in charge of arrangements.
He died at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, Neb.
He was born June 5, 1926, on a farm near Jansen, Neb., the son of John and Nora (Grummert) Krause. He was married to Katherine Sevelta Koop in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army following World War II. He worked for Swift Foods for many years as plant refrigeration engineer in Beatrice, Sioux City, Iowa; Sedalia, Mo; and Brownwood, Texas, where the family eventually made their home.
Survivors include his wife, Sevelta “Sally” of Brownwood and Jansen, Neb.; a daughter, Carolyn Newton Herring and husband Newton of Tucson, Ariz.; a son, Eric Krause of Brownwood; sisters, Mildred Brott of Waukee, Iowa, Norma Johnson of Wymore, and Maralyn Ostgren and husband Stan of Fairbury, Neb.; sister-in-law, Valgene Krause of Auberry, Calif.; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nora; and his brother, Harlan.
