At 7:30 p.m. on May 27, 2007, God called home a good and faithful servant. Rev. Robert J. Elkins was born June 19, 1914, near Camp Bowie, Texas.
He married the former Roxie Bowles on May 5, 1934. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1944. He surrendered for the Ministry in 1943 and pastored several churches in Brown, Comanche and Taylor counties. He graduated from Howard Payne College. He was in the sign paining business in Brownwood for many years retiring at 87 years of age.
He was preceded in death by his wife in December of 2000.
He is survived by two sons, Robert Elkins and wife Von Dean of Tuscola, and Jim Elkins and wife JoAnn of Brownwood; and one daughter Jeanette Munn and husband Joe of Gainesville. He is also survived by six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Wayne Satterfield of Winters; one half-brother, Joe Baty of Kyle Card, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
He is with his wife now and will be greatly missed by all his relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2007, in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Ivy and the Rev. Ray Box officiating, interment will follow in Greenleaf Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
