COLEMAN - Funeral services for Thomas Marion Byers, 82, of Coleman, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Burkett Cemetery, under the direction Stevens Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He died Monday, July 28, 2008, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.

He was born Dec. 28, 1925, in Bienville, La., the son of Willard Manton Byers and Carrie Ann Tabor Byers. He grew up in Louisiana and married Betty Jo Foster on Dec. 5, 1952, at the home of Bill and Inez Vess in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from Abilene Christian College and was a preacher for more than 50 years. He moved to Coleman in 2002.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Byers of Coleman; two daughters, Elizabeth Burkley and husband, Terry, of Red Oak, and Esther Cox and husband, Daniel, of Stamford; two sons, Thomas Byers Jr. and wife, Beverly, of Coleman, and Allen Byers and wife, Carla, of Abilene; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Velma Byers and Esther Byers, both of Burkett, Fay Hagar and husband, Ray, of Abilene, Bernice Byers of Niagara, Wis.; one brother, Charles Byers and wife, Norma of Merkel and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Dora Driskell, Cora Robertson and Vira Byers; and two brothers, Willard Byers and Dan Byers.
