Memorial services for Wanda Masey, 65, of Brownwood, will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Dearl Hardy officiating.

Mrs. Masey passed away on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at a local nursing facility.

Wanda Nell Owen was born on March 25, 1944, to Carl and Elizabeth Owen, in Lamesa, Texas. She was raised in Lubbock and attended Lubbock schools. On May 11, 1967, she was married to Carl Russell Stanley Jr. in Brownwood. He preceded her in death.

Wanda had been the shelter coordinator for the Noah Project, currently known as the Ark, for 10 years. She started as a hotline volunteer, and then served as a volunteer coordinator, fund-raising chairman, shelter coordinator, and advisory board member. She received several awards including outstanding staff member of the year.

She enjoyed gardening, country music, crocheting and doing crafts, but her favorite past-time has always been fishing. She had lived in the Brownwood area for the last 43 years, moving here from Lubbock.

She is survived by her sons, James Stanley and wife Hadina, of Lubbock, Danny Stanley and wife Sonya, of Lubbock, Freddy Stanley and wife Amy, of Brownwood; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother, Elizabeth Southerland of Bangs; brother, Carl Owen, Jr. and wife, Janice of Brownwood and four sisters, Joann Stroope and husband Bill, of Andrews, Venita Owen of Brownwood, Tommie Davis of Brownwood, and Barbara Gotcher and husband Ricky, of Bangs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Stanley Jr., daughter, Rhonda Lanelle and her father, Carl Owen Sr.
