MIDLAND — Funeral services for James Oliver “J.O or Pete” Garrett Sr. will be at 2 p.m. today at Alamo Heights Baptist Church in Midland with the Rev. Gary Redwine officiating. Burial will follow at Serenity Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.

He died Saturday, May 10, 2008

He was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Sykes, La. He was married to Marie Longkable on Jan. 28, 1950. She preceded him in death in 2005. He worked for the El Paso Natural Gas Co., and jobs in the oil fields took him from Louisiana to West Texas and New Mexico. In 2007, Mr. Garrett received his 50-year membership award from the Masonic Lodge.

He was married to Nancy Sloan on July 7, 2007.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Sloan Garrett; son, James O. Garrett Jr. and fiancee Janet Courtroul of Midland; daughter, Dianne Willeford and husband Rick of Bryant, Ark.; sister, Sarah Norwood of Winnsboro, La.; and brother, John Louis Welch of Winnsboro, La.

Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his brother Floyd (Blue) Garrett.

Memorials may be made to Midland Memorial Foundation, 2200 W. Illinois, or to a charity of one’s choice.
