Funeral services for Viola Mae Cox, 86, of Lake Brownwood will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday Oct. 20, 2007, at Pleasant Grove Church, sometimes called Holder Church. The Rev. Charles Copeland will officiate the funeral. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, 2007 at Heartland Funeral Home.

Life long resident of Brown County, Viola Mae Cox was born July 2, 1921, in Holder, Texas, to Myrtle Jewel Butler Beck and John Henry Beck. Jack Wright Cox married Viola on March 23, 1940, and they were married 49 years before Jack passed away. They have three sons, Gerald Maxwell Cox of San Francisco and Shanghai, China; Darrell Kenton Cox of Denison; and Keith Mitchell Cox of Brownwood. Viola died Oct. 15, 2007, at Brownwood Regional Hospital.

Viola grew up on the Beck farm near May, Texas. She had many sisters and brothers that provided her loving support. After marriage to Jack, she moved to the Cox cattle ranch in Brown County and started her family. She lived there for 64 years. Her life revolved around her family and friends. Her favorite hobbies were gardening, cooking and bird watching. She worked for Brownwood Manufacturing and Brown-wood Regional Hospital, and she also supported farming operations during her life. She attended Grosvenor Baptist Church and Pleasant Grove Church. She was totally devoted to her family and will be remembered as a joyful and spirited woman of high integrity.

Viola is survived by three sons and three granddaughters: Gerald Cox and daughters Cynthia Cox of Berkeley, Calif., and Catherine Cox of Davis, Calif.; Darrell Cox and wife Diana of Denison; and Keith Cox of Brownwood and daughter Rachel Cox of Toronto, Canada.

Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Cox and her parents, John and Myrtle Beck; three brothers, Vernon Beck, Melton Beck and Norman Beck and one sister, Johnnie Eggar. She is survived by two brothers, J.H. Beck and Adron Beck of May; three sisters, Velma Lancaster of Rising Star, Jewel Snow of Waterford, Calif., and Vada Childers of Tye, Texas.
