A celebration of his life for Randal W. “Randy” Smith, age 49, of Brownwood and formerly of Austin, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at the Emanuel Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Benny M. Allcorn officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Church Cemetery near Blanket. Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. today, at Heartland Funeral Home.

He died Thursday afternoon, Sept. 17, 2009, following a sudden illness.

He was born Nov. 22, 1959, in Santa Anna, the son of Kenneth James Smith and Sharon Ashley Smith. He graduated from high school at Cross Plains. Following working at several jobs in the Brownwood area, he later moved to Austin to pursue his love of music through classes in music theory. He was an accomplished guitarist and pianist and wrote many songs. He also was a master electrician. Following a stroke, he moved back to Brownwood where he had lived for the past five years. He attended Emanuel Chapel United Methodist Church where he shared his musical talent on occasions.

He is survived by his mother, Sharon Ashley of Brownwood; sister – Amy Sue Smith-Ward and husband Daryl of Brownwood; step-mother, Gussie Smith of Coleman; brother, Bryan Rainey of Amarillo; step-brother, Ronnie Aycox and wife Karen of Brownwood; aunt, Nina Aydelotte of Coleman; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his father, a sister, Ramona Marcee, and a brother, Marty Smith.
