Melanie Jane Keeton was born in Brownwood, Texas, Jan. 31, 1956. She resided in Terrell, Texas. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior and her family who has gone before at 4 p.m., Monday, May 25, 2009.
She fought a brave and courageous battle with Cystic Fibrosis for 53 years.
She was fortunate to receive the gift of a lung from a stranger in 2003 and lived a quality life for six more years. She was a role model and hero to many people. She was a positive example. She worked all her adult life. She was the Chief Deputy Clerk for the 5th District Court of Appeals in Dallas, Texas, for 20 years.
Surviving her is her mother, Norma Smith Keeton of Dallas; father, Robert E. Keeton of Gainesville, Texas; her husband, Butch Viehland of Terrell; her sister, Lisa and Tim Crump; her nieces, Faith Nisbett of Dallas, Amber and Dusty Hale of Rowlett, Texas, Tonya and Hope Crump of Rowlett, Texas; her great nephews, Billy and Johnny Hale; great nieces, Katelin Nisbett and Delaney Crump; her aunt Dana Smith Perry and Milton of Brownwood; shared son and cousins, Shane Ross Wood of Brownwood, Melissa Perry of Brownwood, Micah H. Perry of Austin, Texas; aunt Betty and Sam Russell of Early, Texas; and numerous other relatives, and a host of friends.
Those preceding her in death are her brother Lanny Craig Keeton, and sister Regina Taylor both who had Cystic Fibrosis, a nephew David Taylor. Her grandparents, Marvin and Hannah Smith and Bob and Ola Keeton.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Terrell, Texas.
Her funeral was Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Anderson Clayton in Terrell, Texas, with Bro. John Lowrie officiating. Burial follow in Poetry, Texas.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
