COLEMAN - Funeral services for Dorothy Summers, 90, of Coleman, will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Stanislaw officiating. Burial will be in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Family visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
She died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at Bastrop Nursing Center in Bastrop.
She was born Sept. 14, 1918, in Dennison, to Auburn Benjamin Steen and Grace Marshall Steen. She grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School. She attended North Texas Agricultural College and graduated from Rutherford Calculating School in 1938. She was married to John William Summers on March 30, 1940, in Bryan. He died on July 29, 1994. During World War II, she worked as a stenographer. She was a registered Choctaw Indian and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, John W. Summers II and wife, Mitzi, of Bastrop, James W. Summers and wife, Patty, of Clyde, North Carolina; three grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Edward Steen, Auburn Steen and Marshall Steen; and one sister, Mary Shannon.
