Aden Bishop, 93, of Brownwood passed away Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 at the Austin Avenue Church of Christ in Brownwood with Roland Bowen officiating. Burial will be at Eastlawn Memorial Park.

Family visitation was held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at the Heartland Funeral Home in Early.

Aden was born on Dec. 5, 1914, in Brown County, Texas, to Lashley Brown Bishop and Lizzie May Brewster Bishop. On Aug. 18, 1935, he was married to Virginia Kathlene Jack in Brownwood. He worked as a wholesaler in the Brownwood area for many years, and was also a railroad engineer. He loved hunting rocks and making jewelry, and loved to fish as well. In his younger years he was a avid basketball player. He was a member of the Austin Avenue Church of Christ, and had been a resident of Brownwood all of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Bishop of Brownwood; one daughter, Nancy King and husband Bill of Early; one sister, Nell Dodd and husband Charlie of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Janet Fritch and husband Rick, Linda Pede and husband Ron, Joe King and wife Kelly, and Scott King and wife Janessa; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lashley and May Bishop; brother, Harmon Bishop; son, Jack Bishop; and two granddaughters, Keri Lea King and Kay Lyn King.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Cherokee Children’s Home.
