Anna Ezzell, 63, of Rising Star, Texas, passed away on Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at home in Rising Star, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec, 28, 2009, at the Church of Christ in Rising Star, Texas, with Terry Jackson officiating and Weldon Hill assisting. Burial will be in the Rising Star Cemetery in Rising Star, Texas, with Higginbotham Funeral Home of Rising Star in charge. 

Anna was born on Oct. 4, 1946, in Baird, Texas, to Richmond Ezzell and Olena (Hellums) Ezzell. A retired teacher of 37 years. She taught and coached at Pawnee, Vernon, Mesquite, Big Spring, Rising Star and Tarleton State. She attended college at Cisco Junior College and Tarleton State. After retiring, she began farming and cattle raising full-time until her death.

She received numerous awards during her lifetime including Who’s Who Among American Teachers, Rising Star Community Service Award, Mirabeau B. Lamar Award, Rising Star Ex-Student Association Teacher of the Year, Chamber of Commerce 2007 Outstanding Citizen of the Year, 2008 Woman of the Year, and in September 2009 Rising Star Exes Association plaque for years of work and dedication in the community and school.

She was currently the Director of the Rising Star Historical Museum, Board member of Rising Star chamber of Commerce, and Chairman of the Exes Association. She was involved with the Rising Star 4th of July and Oktoberfest. Anna was a big bargain hunter and loved to find deals at garage sales and auctions.

She is survived by her mother, Olena Ezzell of Rising Star; four brothers, R.T. “Skipper” Ezzell Jr. and his wife, Roberta of Fort Worth; Willie H. Ezzell and his wife, Brenda of Rising Star; Benny Ezzell of Owens; Bryan Ezzell and his wife, Lisa of  Rising Star; two sisters, Linda Worley of Gatesville; Janet Murphree and her husband, Doc of Sidney; two aunts, Pauline Parsons of Baird; LaFond Ghormley of Deer Park; 12 nieces and nephews, Jackie Fagan; Kathy Wakefield; John Ezzell; Tommy Worley; Mistie Conditt; Will Ezzell; Courtney Bridges; Becky Jones; Scott Murphree; Tige Ezzell; Gynna Ezzell; Cal Ezzell; 11 great nieces and nephews, Camden; Peyton; Lauren; Tarryn; Durham; Meghan; Cal; Lane; Jayden; Anthony; Emma; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, and her father.

The family will have a time of visitation for friends and extended family at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Breast Cancer Awareness, Rising Star Museum, Rising Star Foundation, or Rising Star Ex-Students Association.
