SANTA ANNA - Funeral services for Virgil Lancaster, 87, of Santa Anna will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Trickham Union Church with the Rev. Rodger Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Trickham Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Henderson Funeral Home.
He died at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at the Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman.
He was born May 29, 1921, in Trickham, to the late Lige and Mamie King Lancaster. He was raised in Trickham where he attended the Trickham Schools and graduated in 1939 from Santa Anna High School. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army 89th Infantry Division in Europe. On May 29, 1955, he was married to Veda Beatrice Daniel in Brownwood, and she died in 1974. He was married to Marie Matthews in Santa Anna on Sept. 3, 1979. She died in 2003. He was a lifetime resident of Coleman County and was a member of the Baptist church, the Santa Anna Livestock Association and served on the board for the Trickham Cemetery Association. He was a plant supervisor, ranch foreman and stockfarmer.
Survivors include a step-daughter, Sherry Byers of Snowlake, Ariz.; stepson, Carl Cosper of Taylor, Ariz.; niece, Linda Hughes of San Antonio; anephew, Robert Oakes of Midland; and one step-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Oaks Carter and brother, Robert Earl Lancaster.
