Funeral services for Wesley Johnson, age 86, of Brownwood, will be Friday at 10 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2009, at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Tim Skaggs and Bill Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Wesley died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, in a local nursing facility.

Wesley was born on July 22, 1922, in Ruston, La., to Wesley H. Johnson Sr. and Bertha Rockett Johnson. He attended Centenary College in Shreveport and later worked for Illinois Central Railroad in New Orleans after the Korean War. Wesley worked as a wholesale florist in Texarkana, Texas, where he and Oiuta made their home for many years before moving to Brownwood in 1999.

Wesley was a staff sergeant in the Army in World War II attached to the 9th Air Force. He served in the Battle of the Bulge and the invasion of Normandy at Omaha beach. He was decorated with five Bronze Battle Stars. He was a life member of VFW Post 196 and was also a member of the Disabled Veterans of America.

Wesley is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ouita of Brownwood; two sons, Henry B. Johnson and wife Debra of Irving and David W. Johnson and his wife Esmer of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Linda J. Porter and husband Richard of Brownwood; and three grandchildren, Brad Porter, Stuart Porter and Sarah Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and a grandson, Bryan Johnson.
