Johna Lee Jenkins, 89, of Brownwood, died May 29, 2007, in a local nursing home.

She was born March 28, 1918, to John and Laura (Walker) Allison in Brownwood.

She married Sam Jenkins on Feb. 13, 1935, in Bangs. She graduated with both her bachelors and masters degrees from Howard Payne University. She was a fifth grade teacher at Bangs Elementary, and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Bangs, where she taught Sunday School from age 18 until age 84.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2007, at the First Baptist Church of Bangs with Brother Eddie Freeman and David Barnum officiating. Interment will follow at Bangs Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter: Linda Meeks of Bangs; grandsons, Glen Harper of Budapest, Hungary, John Meeks of Early and Doug Meeks of Dallas; a sister, Dorothy Rhodes of Brownwood; a brother, M.O. Allison of Breckenridge; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Jenkins, and a daughter, Sammye Harper.
