In trying to describe our beloved mother and grandmother, it is probably easiest to say that she was near perfect. Never a harsh word, she wanted to be a friend to everyone and she succeeded in doing so. A very meek woman, mom was strong as she faced the challenges her life brought her, always trying to comfort us when we hurt over what she was going through. She came from a huge family, and as she battled cancer, nothing seemed to ease her pain like a game of cards with all her brothers and sisters. It was with great honor, that her family was able to care for her in the last days of her life.
She is survived by daughters, Gloria Field and husband Jimmy, Mary Frances Leinbaugh and husband Ray, all of Brownwood and Alice Cole of Birmingham, Ala.; her son, Joe Paul DeAnda and wife, Betty of Brownwood; grandchildren, Daniel Field, Christina Cox, Jonathan Fitzgerald and Stephen Leinbaugh of Brownwood; Danielle Waldrop, Alexa and Zachary Cole of Birmingham, Ala.; and seven great-grandchildren. Also, her sisters Ventura and husband Johnny Cadena of Brownwood, Carolina Castanuela, Catalina and husband Geraldo Ruiz of Midlothian, Texas; brothers Jimmy Gonzales, Medardo Gonzales and Gonzalo and wife Olivia Gonzales of Fort Worth, Richard Gonzales of Longview, and Niņo and wife Corine Gonzales of Brownwood survive, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Mary Elizabeth DeAnda, brothers, Paul
and Asencion Gonzales Jr., sisters, Jane Ramirez and Elida Perez; parents, Asencion Sr. and Petra Gonzales.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Amy Tindol, and Lighthouse Hospice who helped care for her during such difficult times.
